Sunshine Acres

Sunshine Acres

Yesterday I had the awesome opportunity to attend Sunshine Acres for the evening. I went along with Charlene Bower of Bower Motorsports Media and Casey Ribble and we all worked together to put some smiles on other kids faces. To end the day on a happy note for the kids who attend Sunshine Acres we blew up giant yellow smiley face balloons! Sunshine Acres’ has a mission to provide a loving, Christian home for children who are separated from their parents and help them establish long-term relationships with stable parental figures, preparing them for success later on in the future. These people set off more then just being a home for others, they are one big happy family. Right now there are about 70 kids living there. This is there home and they are always welcomed back with open arms. I am so happy I was able to go along, seeing the smiles on everyones face when they saw the balloons was a great feeling because I knew I got to be the person to help bring them happiness and brighten there day. It was a memory they would never forget.

Photography class is in session

Photography class is in session

It’s the 2nd week back to school and the projects have started!

1st Week: So our first project for the week is the best picture we took over winter break. I’ll admit I didn’t take very many pictures because I was so busy doing family stuff for the holiday’s but I did take lots of family pictures and a couple pictures of some flowers with my new camera that i received for Christmas! While messing with the new camera I was trying to figure out how to change the ISO and different things to make my picture pop! This picture turned out beautiful and all I had to do in photoshop was up the Clarity a little bit.

Orange Roses

2nd Week: This week our goal is to do some other projects coming up like Surreal, Light Painting and Photographer Presentations.

Surreal photography are displays of a designer’s rich imagination of subjects which are turned into real pictures. Most surreal pictures are captivating be it pleasant or not because it is not what we experience in our daily life meaning it isn’t part of real life. Given it is not an event we could not possibly experience, it leaves a huge dimension for viewers to interpret what the photographer was trying to convey through their work. This is what makes surreal photos a challenge for the photographers and in the same time, an awesome adventure for others.

Light Painting or also known as Light Art is very cool. Light Painting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera. The term light painting also encompasses images lit from outside the frame with hand-held light sources. Light Painting Photography can be traced back to the year 1914 whenFrank Gilberth, along with his wife Lillian Moller Gilberth, used small lights and the open shutter of a camera to track the motion of manufacturing and clerical workers.

Photography Presentations are going on for each student through out the class. The photographer I chose was Dorothea Lange, who is well known for taking the picture known as the Migrant Mother in 1936. I will be posting the presentation in my next post by next week!

I have learned some new things in photoshop so here is a picture to show one of them! This is suppose to make the picture look like the object is going very fast instead of just a shot of a guy on his motorcycle after coming over a jump! This is more fun!

2013 A Year to Remember

2013 A Year to Remember

2013…! What can I say!

This year had to be one of the best years!

There were Many things this year that I could write about like the photography internship I took on for a bit, my grades, the new people I got to meet, the wonderful holidays I spent with the people I love the most but, to make it simple here are some things that went on during each month!

January, I turned 16 and received my license, probably the best thing ever!

February, getting to go and be apart of the 2013 King of the Hammers!

March, I spent the week with my dad in Moab, UT and raced my very 1st Dirt Riot Race and my brother got to be my co-driver this year!

April, my family and I were a part of my brothers Short Course Racing!

May, the May-June Issue of CRAWL Magazine came out “A Dynasty at Hand, Campbell’s two seat IFS Car, Built for the kids”. It was so cool seeing pictures of me driving and showing off the car! Definitely an experience to remember!

June-July, I built my Facebook page and very own website to start up Bailey Campbell Media all thanks to Charlene Bower w/ Bower Motorsports Media!

August, my Facebook page and website were released! It was a great accomplishment for me. School started and new classes had begun! I also started practicing in Tucson for the W.E. Rock Competition.

September, was a great month! I had my first W.E. Rock, Rock Crawl in Cortez, CO! I took 3rd in Unlimited and 6th in Pro Mod! I can not thank my uncle Nick enough for being my spotter the whole weekend! He is the BEST! I also went to my 1st D-Backs Game!

October, is of course all about Halloween! One of my favorite holidays and it was great, spending it with my family and boyfriend!

November, two of my pictures were published in FourWheeler Magazine! It is such an honor and its not everyday that a 16 year old gets there pictures published in a magazine! My family also hosted the end of the year party to thank everyone for their help through out the year! and of course it was the best month of the year to be able to stuff your face for Thanksgiving!

December…the best time of the year when everyone is joyful, kind, warm hearted and caring. December is the month that ends the year and this one is ending with a great one behind it! This is the time when I get to look back on everything that has happened! So many great things and so many memories. The year couldn’t have been made without the people who surround me so I can’t say thank you enough to everyone who has ever helped and done things for me, especially my parents!

Now lets all start off the New Year with a bang!! I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Holiday!

For many more weeks now I have learned lots of new things! My photography class has really pushed me to pursue what I love doing and I couldn’t ask for a more entertaining and learning environment. Recently in class we have been asked to do a time lapse video, halloween(for extra credit) and a students choice project.

Time-lapse photography is an interesting technique that records a scene or object that has a slow state-of-change and turns it into a video that plays back in high speed. The easiest way to do it is to have your camera stationed on a stable area like a tripod or anything else that will make it secure. So i chose to take multiple pictures of my friend drawing a picture of some flowers from an angle so i could capture his hand movements and the sketching while he was drawing. I have not yet finished putting the video together yet but i will have it up soon!
Pumpkins

Halloween turned out great this year! It’s always a great time to get the family together and see everyone dressed up in there cute little costumes! For my extra credit I took a picture of some little pumpkins that just got into the spirit a little bit of both fall and halloween because its that time of the year. What i decided to do was focus mainly on the front pumpkin and have the others blurred out. After that I put it into Lightroom and Brightened it up a little bit and then added some clarity to make it sharper.

Grace Students Choice is always my favorite because that is when I get the chance to experiment with photoshop a little bit more. In this photo I learned a little more about how to softened the face and brighten her eyes. I also learned how to sharpen the details through photoshop by creating a new layer and doing what is called a High Pass filter. The High Pass filter sharpens and brings out more detail making the image more elaborate and well….Awesome!!

W.E. Rock Nationals

2013 W.E. Rock Nationals

W.E. Rock Nationals Cortez, CO 2013-2Friday, September 27th My mom, uncle Nick, my uncle Nicks girlfriend Jen, Charlene Bower and I left for W.E. Rock Nationals in Cortez Colorado. We all pulled out of the shop parking lot pulling mine and my brothers car, shutting the gate behind us and all hoping for the best this weekend. My dad Shannon and brother Wayland were in Congress Arizona for Ultra4 Nationals and later joined us in Colorado for my brother to compete in the second day of W.E. Rock  Nationals.

A long 7 1/2 hours later we pulled into the hotel parking lot and checked into our rooms. Everyone was starving so we all loaded up and drove down the street to munch on some kick but italian food. This restaurant was called Latsa Pasta and I would definitely recommend it to anyone driving through Cortez. Back into the car with stuffed faces, we headed back to the hotel room to get some good sleep and be prepared for tomorrows rock crawl competition.

Saturday the 28th we rolled up to the event site to park and unload the cars. My uncle Nick and I signed in and drew numbers that told us where we would be starting. Shortly after we both went and walked the courses figuring out the best lines to take, deciding weather or not to take the bonus line, and when to switch into to 4 wheel drive or front wheel drive. I took on quite a bit of a challenge and that would be driving both mine and my brothers car because my brother was at the Ultra4 race. I was very excited because I would get to be apart of the Pro Mod and Unlimited Class and compete with some of the very best guys W.E. Rock Nationals Cortez, CO 2013-2that have been rock crawling for years. Finally 2 o’clock came around and I was 1st up on A2 in the Unlimited car. I didn’t get a perfect score but, I will give myself props for doing an awesome job especially for that being the 1st time ever driving my brothers car. Switching cars after every course I was starting to get wore out! Nick and I were both trying to get use to each other with this being his first time spotting for me and me trying to figure out his hand signals! It was a fun day and by the end of it we were sitting in 3rd place for the Pro Mod class and 2nd in the Unlimited class. I was so excited to give my dad that phone call on saturday night and tell him how much fun I had. I had a smile on my face the rest of the night as we went to dinner because of the way my dad told me how proud he was of me and how badly he wish he could have been their but i was also very happy to hear that my dad took 8th place overall, 1st in National points and also was awarded Sportsman of the Year at the Ultra4 Nationals. Wayland also took 3rd overall, 2nd in National points and 1st in the Western series.

The weekend was coming to an end and it was the last day of W.E. Rock Nationals. My dad and Wayland got out to the event site about the same time we did and they also brought along my grandma, and Ryan Miller. Later my other grandparents and one of my aunts also showed up for the day. It was a great feeling knowing I had some family there to watch and support me. Wayland and I are both ready to compete today and kick some butt. Ryan Miller spotted for Wayland and Nick still continued to spot for me. We both had clean runs to start off our day and some of the next courses were a challenge. My last course for the shoot out was a great run but had a little bit of drama to go along with it. Nick walked me through the first gates and then we rolled up to the 2nd ones which everyone we had watched was having a little but of trouble with. We struggled for a bit and W.E. Rock Nationals Cortez, CO 2013Nick kept stacking rocks under the rear tires hoping it would give the car just that extra lift and push it to the top but after a while Nick told me to floor it and keep rotating the tires hoping it would catch some grip and pull it to the top…well thats exactly what happened except when I got to the top my foot slipped off the brake and Nick slipped in some gravel and i caught his leg/ankle. Thank god he was ok to finish up the course and we got a pretty good score. Paramedics made sure Nick was ok and we had him rested up with some ice to place on it. By this time we were now sitting in 6th place which meant I was first up in the shoot out. Nick was unable to be my spotter at this time because he was in some pain but my dad Shannon stepped in. The shoot out course was difficult and we only made it through the 1st gate and 1 of the bonus lines before timing out. My brother finished off his day with a 3rd place finish but technically so did I. Participating in this event was very exciting and only a little nerve racking for being my first one but by the end of the weekend I thought to my self that I had an awesome time and I can’t wait to get back out there and do it again.

Having the experience to do this and now be apart of the W.E. Rock Family is an honor. I cant thank everyone enough for all the help, good pointers during the competition and the other competitors for not treating me any different from anyone else just because I am a 16 year old girl! I especially want to thank Nick for putting up with me and wanting to be my spotter for the weekend. I cant wait to compete in another W.E. Rock competition.

Practice Makes Perfect

Weekend Practice

Nice weather, a free Saturday, nothing to get done, It was time to load up the jeep and go hit some trails! My brother Wayland, dad, uncle Nick and I along with some close friends Matt and Shawn went out to practice Saturday so I could get some seat time in before W.E Rock Nationals which is in 1 week! Everything went great. I had the best time and I am so thankful for the friends and family that are helping me and teaching me everything I need to know! It’s great to learn from the best. After we completed all the trails we had wanted to we loaded up the jeep and  headed back to the shop to unload. Sunday morning my dad let my brother and I sleep in a little bit but when we woke up we headed to the shop. My dad told my brother to finish prepping his car for Ultra4 Nationals which is the same weekend as W.E. Rock Natioals that my dad and brother would be attending later saturday night. My job for the day was to clean up my car scrub the tires and wheels and oil it up to prevent from rusting. Im very excited to be attending my very first rock crawl which will be held in Cortez, CO on September 28th-29th.

Photography class is in session

I have been in school for about 5 weeks now and I have learned so many things in my new Photography class! I had transferred into this class a few days late and I had no idea what I was doing because this teacher was new to me and my last photography teacher had his own way of teaching.

Week 1: was a success! This week I had the opportunity of learning the fundamentals and goals of this class. Some fundamentals were what kind of projects would be happening this year through out the class, field trips being taken and rules of the equipment. Goals that are set to be made in this photography class were learning more about your camera, how to use your camera more in depth, a review of photoshop, hopping into the detailed ways of using photoshop and many more other goals.

Ultra4Week 2: This week the whole class was to find the best picture they had taken over the summer. My best picture was taken at a race in Glenhelen, CA. The process of turning our pictures in is to print it out in class as an 8×10. After the picture is printed out you must make a contact sheet of the other pictures that were taken the same day along with the one you have chosen to print out. Once you have made the contact sheet you pick up an evaluation sheet and fill it out telling your photography teacher what the theme of the picture is, where it was taken, why you chose it, does it have good light on a scale of 1-10, does it have good contrast on a scale of 1-10 and so on. i love the picture I chose!

Week 3: Throughout this week we had to turn in signed papers and a Sunset picture assignment. The sunset picture assignment had to be taken at three different exposures while taking the picture. As soon as the pictures are uploaded and opened in photoshop we had to use what is called an HDR technique. All three pictures taken at different exposures are combined together and give the main picture complete detail. It was really cool learning about that.

Ultra4 Attica, Indiana 2013-10Week 4: This week consisted of a 3 paragraph essay. Writing isn’t really my thing but when it comes to writing about photography I love it! The whole class was to write a 3 paragraph essay on a theme they would like to focus on most throughout this school year. I chose action photography because that is what I enjoy most. I like action photography because the world is made of action, everything is in motion and I think it is really cool to capture those kinds of images.

Week 5: Week 5 was kind of a slow week. My photography teacher was out of town this week for a photoshop class in vegas. My teacher left us with different tutorials that had to do with photoshop and a photo assignment. The photoshop tutorials taught me very many things and my photo assignment was to print out a picture that had to do with our theme. My picture was again another picture from a race but this race was held in Attica, IN.

Many more weeks to come and I cant wait to learn more new and exciting things throughout this year!

Ultra4 Attica, Indiana 2013-16

My Trip to Attica, IN

Ultra4 Attica, Indiana 2013On Tuesday, June 25th my family and i left for Attica, IN. The high in Arizona on Tuesday was about 108 degrees…thank god we would be leaving Arizona’s dead beat weather. With a crammed truck including my mom, dad, uncle and my brother we were sure to have no leg space but lots of snacks for the road trip! We like junk food. About 5 bathroom stops and fuel ups later we pulled into a hotel parking lot around 5 am to stretch out our legs and  get some sleep.

We all woke up around 9 and scrunched back in the truck and headed to Shawnee, OK where some of our family lives. My dad planned to stay here for 2-3 days and get some fishing in. My grandma and grandpa Campbell left a few days before us and were already at the Farm House where we usually stay when we come to visit. My grandpa was definitely excited to do some fishing with my brother and i sense we haven’t been here in years. Out in the grassy fields stands tons of cattle and there calves along with a few horses. My grandpa, brother and i hop in the gator that we cruise around in to get from pond to pond to fish. We take off to the furthest pond that we call the Pecan Pond. My family calls it the Pecan pond because it has Pecan trees all the way around it and it holds big Cat fish and Crappy that are extremely smart and hard to catch sometimes! My grandpa is not very patient when it comes to fishing so we only stay at one pond for about 15 minutes and then hit up the next one! Through out the whole entire day i never caught one fish. I was glad it was the first day!

Thursday came around and everyone got up early to eat breakfast! Family back in Shawnee, OK sure know how to cook! My aunt Wanda’s banana pudding though…the BEST! The weather was humid and hot but had a little bit of a nice breeze. Once again my brother, grandpa and I hopped in the gator and went to fishing. We were all getting kind of impatient with the ponds now because we are usually pulling fish out left to right. We give up for a little bit and go eat some lunch back at the farm. Around 1:30 we drove down to the dock to fish and hang out. The trees shaded the dock and sent a nice breeze our way, there is no better moment then this. I was definitely enjoying this time with my brother and grandpa and then finally i caught my first fish! It was a Bass about 2 lbs. Not very big but i was so excited! Then my brother just had to show me up and catch a dang Cat fish! Im not a very big fish eating person but my dad said my Bass tasted pretty yummy! I ended up eating lasagna and enchiladas, now that is what i call some good food! Friday we are getting up early to head out and drive to Attica, IN for the Ultra 4 Race.

Ultra4 Attica, Indiana 2013-14It was 9 in Oklahoma when we left for Indiana. Our legs were all cramped up again and we made my mom sit in the middle so we could use her as a pillow…she didn’t like it very much ha! The weather keeps getting cooler and cooler as we go through each state, its like heaven! We were getting closer to Indiana and i was just ready to get to the hotel and sleep in a bed. We had to find a different hotel to stay in for the night because my mom didn’t make reservation at the other one for friday night. Thank goodness that allowed dogs or Ms. Roni would have been sleeping in the truck and thats just sad. We went out to the Badlands Off-Road park for qualifying after we ate breakfast that was Muy Delicioso! My dad qualified 1st for the race tomorrow, everyone was so excited. It began to sprinkle a little bit and the course was starting to get muddy. The cloud cover though was perfect for picture taking! Everyone headed back to the hotel because saturday would be a big day.

Woop Woop it was race day! Everyone was pumped and praying that it wouldn’t rain to much today because the course would be a mess. Everyone was getting cars cleaned up a little bit, putting fire suits on and getting lined up for the start. My dad would be starting the race and then making a pit stop and pulling off a driver change with my brother. My dad recently got chemical burns on his feet from a past race and didn’t want them to get muddy and wet because it could cause infection. After the driver change my brother took off and started Ultra4 Attica, Indiana 2013-16completing laps. Through out the race we didn’t have very good radio contact with my brother because of all the mud. My uncle nick took off on our motorcycle and tried to spot my brother on some of the obstacle courses and keep in touch to make sure everything was running ok. Derek West was in 1st place and Clay Gilstrap was in 2nd while my brother was running 3rd place. Towards the end of the race both drivers rigs broke down and my brother brought home a first place finish. He reached his goal as a 1st place finisher in his young racing career. I am so proud of him for keeping the car alive, having a consistent pace through out the whole race and finishing. However i am not happy that he brought back the car muddy because that means i had to help clean it! No biggie though. After the car was cleaned off it was loaded into the trailer and we all packed up and started home.We made it back to the scorching heat in Arizona and unloaded everything. The whole week was perfect and we were all happy to be home!
